AIS Secondary Department

''Enabling and encouraging all our students to achieve their full educational and social potential within an international environment''

The Secondary Department is part of the Lorentz Lyceum, a Dutch comprehensive school with a long tradition.

The unique combination of an international school within a Dutch school offers students the best of both worlds. Integration with Dutch society is facilitated as students meet and take part in joint activities.

At the same time, school management acknowledges the importance of reserving a part of the building for AIS to meet the requirements of mainstream international education.

Therefore, the majority of lessons in the Secondary Department are offered in the international wing, where classrooms and offices are situated around a study hall. The department also has access to the facilities of the Dutch school.

''Tools for individuals''

Differentiation is the key element. The school recognizes the need to differentiate, taking into account the various different cultural, linguistic and academic backgrounds of the students. English, Dutch and German are given as first and second languages; students new to these languages will be given extra support lessons. Remedial teaching is also available for students with dyslexia and dyscalculia problems.

Currently the AIS Secondary Department has approximately 160 students and a staff of 25 teachers.

Our small classes enable teachers to work closely with their students.

All students are required to take part in extracurricular activities, with a wide range of choices ranging from sports to more studious options.

AIS is an IB World School.

We offer the IB-Middle Years Programme (IB-MYP) and the IB-Diplome Programme (IB-DP).
