My name is Mary Webster. I am British and was brought up in the countryside in England. After obtaining a BEd(Hons) degree at Goldsmiths College, London University, I taught for ten years in primary schools in both Inner London and rural schools. I began my international life by training primary teachers in Bhutan. Years in Bangladesh and Zambia followed, where I was involved with teaching, teacher training and caring for my own children. We moved to the Netherlands 18 years ago and I have been working with Rivers International School Arnhem since then, combining teaching with writing and art work. During this time, I studied for a BA(Hons) degree and have completed a Creating Compassionate Cultures Course. I am currently following a four-year course on Holistic Art and Art Therapy. I have worked with all age groups over my career and love working with this age group. I really look forward to the year.
My name is Kristina van Alfen. I am an American from California. I grew up in Southern California in a large family. After obtaining my BA (Liberal Arts) I travelled and worked abroad. I worked and lived in Paraguay for three and a half years training teachers and working in rural schools. I taught in both Guarani and Spanish. Upon returning to the states I taught at a middle school for two years before pursuing my MA in International Development. I moved to the Netherlands 13 years ago and began a family. Since then I have volunteered weekly at my children’s Montessori school and tutored English to Dutch children. I am a licensed yoga instructor as of 2012 and I teach yoga on a weekly basis. I have been working with Rivers International School Arnhem since February 2015. I look forward to working with Mary (again) and Year 5.
